British Council signs deal to train and develop 83,000 teachers in Pakistan
The British Council has signed a deal to train and develop 83,000 teachers in the Kyhber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.
Representatives of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa signed an agreement at the British Council offices in London. Among them were the Minister of Education of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Atif Khan; Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Shahzad Bangash and two provincial assembly parliamentarians, Bibi Fozia and Amina Sardar.
The British Council was represented by the CEO Sir Ciarán Devane, Director English and Examinations Mark Robson, Global Director English Language Anna Searle, Regional Director Society South Asia Shazia Khawar and Director of English Arzu Daniel.
The Minister of Education, Atif Khan, reiterated the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's commitment to improving the quality of education in the province in partnership with the British Council.
The Chief Executive of the British Council, Sir Ciarán Devane said at the signing of the agreement on September 8: "The British Council is honoured to support the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in improving the standard of education in the Province.
"We encourage co-operation between the UK and Pakistan in the field of arts, education and culture. I look forward to strengthening our cultural relationship with Pakistan, through impact driven initiatives which help the people of Pakistan."
Through this three-year project, the British Council will support the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to further strengthen the quality of education in the province, by building the capacity of primary school teachers in the use of English to teach English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.
