Asia is the primary host of UK transnational education. Provision is concentrated in a few countries in the region, notably China and Malaysia.

However, more countries in the region are looking to internationalise their higher education sectors  to establish themselves as education hubs. Motivated by a declining youth population and ambitions to improve quality to enable the country’s transition to a knowledge economy, the Thai Government is inviting foreign universities to establish operations in the Eastern Economic Corridor.

There are currently fewer than 1,000 students of UK transnational education in Thailand and challenging domestic conditions. However, the Government believes that international provision will benefit the country and has put in place regulation to expediate and incentivise market entry. Consequently, Thailand may present a viable opportunity for institutions that are seeking to establish a regional presence.

This UUKi and British Council webinar will look at opportunities for partnership. Discussion will be led by UUKi and British Council Thailand. The session will look at Thailand’s higher education system, recent policy developments, and the current window of opportunity for engagement.
