In Nigeria, British Council launched the first podcast episode of ‘Building the Future’ in partnership with Starta.

The ‘Building the Future’ podcasts are a collection of one-on-one interviews with Dotun Olowoporoku, a partner at Starta. He takes his audience on a journey into the lives of African pacesetters who use technology and entrepreneurship to shape Africa’s future.

In the first podcast, Dotun interviewed Oluseun Onigbinde, a Nigerian Entrepreneur, and co-founder and CEO of BudgIT. They spoke about Oluseun’s entrepreneurial journey leading to the setup of his company.

Founded in 2011, BudgIT is a civic startup that presents a simplified form of the Nigerian budget. The aim is to make data about government spending more accessible to the average Nigerian. Using technology to simplify budget content, BudgIT equips the average citizen with valuable information that holds the government accountable. This is especially important in Nigeria where corruption has long been identified as a major challenge.

Oluseun has worked on several projects funded by the MacArthur Foundation, DFID, Open Society Foundations, OXFAM and Omidyar Network. He is a recipient of the Ashoka Fellowship, Future Africa Awards, Quartz Africa 30 Innovators Award, ASPEN New Voices Fellowship, and sits on the ONE Africa Policy Advisory Board.

Over 40 young entrepreneurs attended the podcast and had the opportunity to ask Oluseun their own questions.
