The British Council is seeking researchers, institutions or market insight organisations to bid to work on the first phase (1a) of our research project: Shaping organisational language policies.
This comprehensive review of language policy development and implementation will be carried out in three phases:
1a. Shaping organisational language policies: Strategies for effective policy development – current state of play.
1b. Shaping organisational language policies: Strategies for effective policy development – frameworks, tools and guidelines.
2. Shaping organisational language policies: Strategies for effective policy implementation.
Phase 1a will report on the current state of play in MNCs in different contexts, and the impact of current market and organisational environment on this. The final report will provide a comprehensive understanding of and insights into the purpose, need for, benefits of and content of organisational language policies. It will make recommendations for organisations to support their decision-making and planning of organisational language policies.
Aim and objectives of this research:
Lot 1: Literature and document review, report with analysis, conclusions and recommendations.
- Gain deep understanding of what organisational language policies are, what components they can include, their purposes and benefits.
- Report on the current state of play of language policies in MNCs in different contexts: how widely they are used, why MNCs have/don’t have them and challenges they face in developing, selecting or reviewing them.
- Report insights on how current market and organisational contexts impact the purpose, need and components of organisational language polices in MNCs.
- Make recommendations on the factors MNCs need to take into consideration when making decisions about whether to develop or review organisational language policies.
- Make recommendations on the factors MNCs need to take into consideration when selecting content for an organisational language policy.
- Make recommendations on next steps for phases 1b (Guidelines, tools and frameworks to support organisations) and 2 (Implementing organisational language policies).
Lot 2: Survey creation, survey and interview administration, dataset creation, analysis and report on trends.
- Gather and analyse data and information and provide commentary to enable the above objectives to be met.
