In this webinar, schools around the world could learn how to get involved with The Climate Connection in this crucial year of the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).
From professional development courses for teachers, to project resources for your pupils, the panel shared practical support to help young people be inspired and act for positive change.
This is the first in a series of Climate Connection webinars for teachers, leading up to COP26 in November.

About the panel
This was a panel event, with speakers from around the world, followed by questions from the audience.
Rachel Lomax was appointed as Deputy Chair of the British Council in December 2018. She is an economist who served as Deputy Governor of the Bank of England between 2003 and 2008. Previously she was permanent secretary of three government departments (Transport, Work and Pensions and the Welsh Office) and held senior positions at the World Bank, the Cabinet Office and the Treasury.
Since 2008 she has held non-executive directorships at several companies, including HSBC Holdings where she was senior independent director until 2017, as well as non-profit organisations, including the National Theatre and Imperial College. She also holds directorship of Resolution Life and has been on board since 2019. She was a non-executive director of Heathrow Airport and SERCO until 2020, and she is currently a trustee of Bruegel and Ditchley Park. She is also a member of the Panel of Senior Advisers at Chatham House.
Maira Salman is the Principal of Ad Alta School, Sahiwal, Pakistan, where she moved after graduating from the University of Manchester. Working in the education sector for over 18 years, Maira is a very hands-on Principal and her main interests lie in curriculum development, promoting SDGs and teacher training. She is the school’s Coordinator for all international programs and also teaches O’ and A’ level English language. Her main focus has always been developing the key skills sets in her students which they need to be truly global citizens.
In 2017, the School received the British Council International School Award, which gave her students the opportunity to work with partner schools in the UK. The school still continues to exchange work with students from all around the world through various British Council Partner Schools projects.
Daniel S Okiya has worked in Teaching for more than 25 years. His teaching career started in Kenya where he was a Head teacher for 5 years before moving to the UK for further studies. Currently, he teaches ages 7 -11 at Nelson Primary School, Eastham in London. Daniel is a British Council Schools Ambassador and an International Education Coordinator for a Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning cluster, featuring 9 UK schools and 17 schools in Kenya. His school received the International School Award in 2020. Daniel has a passion for development education, particularly embedding global dimension in the curriculum and has participated in research in this area.
Neil Williams is the Deputy Programme Manager for the British Council's Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning programme. He will provide a summary of the British Council Climate Connection offer as well as highlighting how schools can get involved in the run up to the COP26 conference.
