Under section 19 of the Freedom of Information Act, the British Council is obliged to adopt and maintain a publication scheme, which has been approved by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
A publication scheme must specify classes of information that a public body publishes, the manner of which information is available and whether there will be a charge.
The British Council has adopted the model publication scheme created for non-departmental public bodies and has produced a guide to information that it publishes.
Datasets
On 1 September 2013, amendments to the Freedom of Infomation Act 2000 regarding the provision and publication of datasets came into force. Public authorities must publish any datasets they hold that have been requested, unless it is not appropriate to do so.
It is recommended that these datasets are made available for re-use under the Open Government Licence.
We will publish any datasets requested under this publication scheme.
