The Covid-19 pandemic is reshaping career opportunities for pupils.
In this webinar, we heard from teachers from around the world on:
- Whether the past year has made it challenging for pupils to undertake work experience
- Whether the Covid-19 pandemic has made pupils rethink future career plans
- How teachers have been supporting pupils to plan for the future
About the panel
This was a panel event, with speakers from around the world, followed by questions from the audience.
Michael Britland is an experienced Secondary school teacher, Careers Leader and Senior Leader. He works as a Development Lead on the Teach First Careers Leader programme, supporting Careers Leaders of all levels of school leadership across England to improve the careers provision in their schools. Michael is also the Founder and Chair of the TF Careers Network which is a network for Careers educators that provides policy ideas and resources as well as events.
Roksana Zarin has been in the teaching profession for more than two decades. She started her career teaching English to young learners. During her long twenty-one-year career at International Hope School Bangladesh, she has served as a Headteacher, a Co-Ordinator, a Teacher Trainer, and a Deputy Head. Roksana has been the Principal of the school since 2017 and is responsible for leading the entire school towards the achievement of its educational goals and objectives and the realisation of its vision and mission.
James Owusu is a qualified teacher who has been teaching in England for the past 20 years. He currently teaches Science and is responsible for global education and citizenship at The Sittingbourne School in Kent. James is passionate about global education and has worked extensively on global education, skills and career development in Europe, Australia and Africa. He was part of European Union team of experts to draft a new scheme for further education themed: New Skills for New Jobs in the 21st Century in Rome, Italy. You can follow James on Twitter here.
Anand Gopakumar is the co-founder and CEO of The Apprentice Project (TAP). He is a 2015 Teach for India fellow and has worked extensively in holistic education and workforce readiness for low -income school children for the past 5 years. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Anand worked on pivoting TAP from a 100% classroom model to a 100% WhatsApp based model. Through this online model, TAP has reached out to over 12,000 low -income students directly or indirectly in the past year. Recently, TAP won the Harvard President's Innovation Award for Social Impact, among 100+ applicants. You can follow The Apprentice Project on Twitter here.
