The Future of English programme develops global research collaborations to identify trends that will define the role of English in the coming decades. With a clear priority to transform research findings into useful insights to inform practice and policy to ensure English language teaching and education is innovative, accessible and inclusive.

This long-term research programme began in 2021 with an initial stage culminating in the launch of The Future of English: Global Perspectives in 2023. Current research initiatives are exploring policy and practice in both basic education and higher education in over 40 countries. The programme will continue to investigate the key themes and questions posed in The Future of English: Global Perspectives through research and projects seeking input from a wide range of international stakeholders across the education community.
