The COSY (Creating Opportunity for South Africa’s Youth) project aims to engage young people, particularly young women, in rural and semi-rural areas to be more active agents in achieving sustainable growth in South Africa.

COSY will work with young people aged 15 - 25 years, community leaders and civil society organisations, focusing on the creative, digital and social enterprise sectors, to build their capacity to become entrepreneurs and increase their employability prospects.

In total, we hope to reach 10,000 people, 100 leaders and 50 civil society organisations.

Together with our partners we will be working in four provinces, including the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, and eight communities within each of those regions.

The project is coordinated by the British Council, in partnership with Business and Arts South Africa, LifeCo UnLtd South Africa and Livity Africa. The South African Department of Small Business Development is an associate partner. All partners have extensive experience in different areas of youth development in South Africa.

COSY began in February 2017 and will run until 31 January 2020. It is funded by the European Union and is worth €935,633.
