Edgar's passion for plastic recycling began in 2015, when he was just 15 years old.
He saw floods that swept away over 700 weak mud houses in Dar es salaam, Tanzania, leaving people homeless. Edgar also remembers that there hundreds of items of waste plastic floating in the flood waters, which were heading towards the ocean where they would cause marine pollution.
Inspired to counter plastic pollution, he came up with a solution by creating a machine that converts plastic waste into plastic lumber. This plastic lumber is a durable and affordable construction material, with a variety of uses from school desks to indoor and outdoor furniture.
