We work with partners from different sectors to influence institutional and organisational level policy and practice to create more opportunities for women and girls. This includes representation in decision making and influencing how priorities are met through the provision of public goods, services and information.

Our programmes focus on four main themes:

leadership and participation in decision-making including in conflict and peacebuilding
prevention of violence against women and girls
gender equality in education
women’s economic empowerment.

Our projects and programmes include:

Addressing Violence Against Women and Girls Through Football

An innovative programme using football to tackle issues of violence against women and girls in Kenya.

Civil Society Support Programme

A programme that supports civil society to contribute to national development, poverty reduction and the advancement of good governance, with a focus on reaching marginalised groups.

English and Digital for Girls’ Education (EDGE)

EDGE focuses on improving life prospects and building English, ICT and social skills among adolescent girls between 14 – 19 in Bangladesh, India and Nepal.

Promoting Gender Equality in Education, Turkey

A project which promotes gender equality for girls and boys throughout the education system by helping teachers, schools and the ministry of education to understand gender equality.

My Right, Egypt

Overview Co-funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office , My Right is a programme run by the British Council, in collaboration with civil society representative organisations. It provides legal and psychological support to female victims of violence and aims to reduce violence against women and helps them to understand their rights.

Managing conflict in Nigeria

To enhance the capability of state and community conflict management institutions to prevent the escalation of conflict into violence in North-Eastern Nigerian states.
