Placements are available for English Language Assistants in 10 destinations around the world. Below you will find an overview of the types of placement available. There is more detailed information on specific countries on the individual Destination-Specific Information pages.

It is important to consider whether you are available for the full period of appointment before applying.

Argentina and Germany are the only destinations with shorter placements available.

This information has been updated for placements in 2025-26 but please be aware that it may be subject to change.

Argentina

Language requirement: B1 Spanish

Placement length: five months

Approximate salary: please note that Argentina experiences high levels of inflation (approximately 40%) so the monthly allowance changes considerably each year. As a result, the monthly allowance will be confirmed nearer the time of appointment.

Start and end date: 1 April - 31 August 2026

Hours per week: 18 (this is divided into 15 weekly hours of class time, and 3 hours preparation time).

Type of institution: Posts are in universities or teacher training colleges where the students are training to become English teachers.

Austria

Language requirement: A2 German

Placement length: eight months 

Approximate salary: €1,487 net per month

Start and end date: 1 October 2025 to 31 May 2026 

Hours per week: 13

Type of institution: posts in Austria are available in secondary and vocational schools.

Belgium

Language requirement: B1 French 

Placement length: eight months

Approximate salary: €1,593.46 net per month

Start and end date: 1 October 2025 - 31 May 2026

Hours per week: 12 - 16

Type of institution: posts in both secondary schools and higher education institutions are available.

Canada (Quebec)

Language requirement: A2 French

Placement length: nine months

Approximate salary: CAD $2,600 gross per month

Start and end date: 1 September 2025 - 31 May 2026

Hours per week: 24

Type of institution: posts are available in primary and secondary schools. A small number of posts are also available in adult education centres.

Colombia

Language requirement: B1 Spanish

Approximate salary: COP $3,000,000 gross per month

Start and end date: 1 August 2025 - 31 May 2026

Hours per week: aproximately 18

Type of institution: the majority of posts in Colombia are at university level.

France

Language requirement: B1 French

Placement length: seven months

Approximate salary: €1,010.67 gross per month

Start and end date: 1 October 2025 - 30 April 2026

Hours per week: 12 - 18

Type of institution: posts are available in primary and secondary schools.

Germany

Language requirement: A2 German

Placement length: five or eight months

Approximate stipend: €1,000 net per month 

Start and end date: full-year placements run from mid-September 2025 to 31 May 2026. Shorter placements run from mid-September 2025 to 28 February 2026.  

Hours per week: 12

Type of institution: posts in Germany are in secondary schools, with a very small number of postings in the primary and adult sectors.

Italy

Language requirement: B1 Italian

Placement length: eight months

Approximate salary: €850 net per month

Start and end date: 1 October 2025 - 31 May 2026

Hours per week: 12

Type of institution: the majority of posts are in secondary schools. A small number are available in primary schools.

Spain

Language requirement: no language requirement

Placement length: between eight and nine months

Approximate salary: between €800 and €1000 net per month 

Start and end date: 1 October 2025 - 31 May 2026 or 28 June 2026

Hours per week: 14 - 16

Type of institution: posts available in Spanish secondary schools, primary schools and state language schools (for adult learners).

Switzerland

Language requirement: A2 French or A1 German.  

Placement length: 10 - 11 months

Approximate salary: CHF 2,600 net per month 

Start date and end date: mid-August/early September 2025 to end of June/mid-July 2026

Hours per week: 12

Type of institution: posts in Switzerland are in secondary schools.
