In its third edition, Africa Nouveau is a multi-disciplinary arts festival built on the philosophy of “Afrobubblegum” that congregates creators, curators and fans of African cool from all over Africa and its diaspora. The 2019 edition of the annual, 3days/3nights festival is set to take place from 8th to 10th March and will be an otherworldly exploration of music, films, Virtual Reality Gaming, visual art, art installations and fashion. Through these different disciplines, the festival is investigating the historic understanding and relationship of Africans to outer world beings and forecasts an imaginary.
East Africa Arts considers festivals a unique opportunity for artistic expression, skills sharing, and the celebration of culture and is supporting the collaborative development of art installations by Africa Nouveau and the Somerset-based music and art festival, Kallida. This design team is working with Kenyan mixed media artists Meshack Oiro and Peter Walala and artists from the Kallida team, Reuben Griffiths, Daniel McGeady, Matt Woodham and Fiona Albrow. Through a mini-residency, the team will work with design students from The University of Nairobi, School of Architecture to build the installations.
The festival will feature 25 live performers working in fashion, film, photography, installation art and virtual reality gaming. Find out more about the festival here and join us from the 8th to 10th March at the Ngong Racecourse Waterfront and immerse yourself in an otherworldly experience.
Join us at the festival on Sunday 8th March at 4:45 pm at the Hill to hear reflections from the collaborators and share your thoughts as we discuss immersive experiences and why good design matters. #EastAfricaArts
